Ticino offers endless possibilities for short trips or long walks. Visitors will admire a variety of landscapes and natural contrasts: charming alpine valleys characterized by traditional granite houses, vineyards, chestnut woods, alpine flowers, waterfalls, lakes, palm trees, glaciers and wild animals as deer, chamois, ibexes, marmots and birds.
During the journey hikers will explore and discover the treasures of this land and have the opportunity to relax by alpine lakes admiring breathtaking views and the sky reflected in the clear waters.
Mountains reach up to 3402 m/11,161 ft offering a large selection of well marked hiking paths – over 3600 km/2,237 mi – from easy to challenging. A mix of flat, uphill and downhill itineraries will please everyone’s taste and level of challenge they are looking for. Ticino has the longest hiking season in Switzerland – the best time to hike is between June and September. April, May and October are also good months, but snow may fall at higher altitude.
In winter
If you visit the Ticino in winter snowshoes will definitely be the ideal equipment to explore the valleys and mountains, that during this season are transformed into enchanted places.
